McNair Prep

Being a part of the McNair Prep program during my 3rd year at the University was an amazing experience as I was able to bond with my amazing cohort and learn how to make my talents shine through research.

This experience taught me that research is such a diverse field with endless depths of knowledge to be explored and the impact in which it can have in all careers is tremendous. As a part of my experience in McNair Prep, I was able to successfully curate all of my gained knowledge that I was able to learn through my research in the lab on breast cancer and the effects of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RON) on breast cancer metastasis.

My research was titled “RON as a Driver of Breast Cancer Metastasis” and discussed the ins and outs of breast cancer stem cell like state, RON receptor tyrosine kinase, and the mechanisms of metastasis and how I was able to test this in the lab. This is research I am truly passionate about, and I hope to further my knowledge as a professional and a lifetime learner in my future endeavors in the community, academia, and medicine.

Undergraduate Scholarly Showcase

I have provided a snippet of my work from the Undergraduate Scholarly Research Showcase. This was truly an eye-opening experience as I was able to build upon skills in research presentation. I was awarded the Excellence in Undergraduate Research award for this presentation.

From January through April, I was able to successfully curate all of my gained knowledge that I was able to learn through my research in the lab on breast cancer and the effects of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RON) on breast cancer metastasis.

Throughout working on my project with my graduate mentor Levi, I was able to gain a much greater understanding in this prospective field of research and I became more in tune with myself as a researcher.
